Career Technical Education

The mission of Desert Sands Unified School District is to provide challenging career technical education programs ensuring every student graduates college and career ready. Students will graduate with clear, observable, and measurable outcomes based on the P21 frameworks specifically on the 4 Cs: Critical Thinking, Creativity, Communication, and Collaboration.

  • 81% of dropouts say relevant, real-world learning opportunities would have kept them in high school.
  • The average high school graduation rate for students concentrating in CTE programs is 93%, compared to an average national freshman graduation rate of 80%.
  • More than 75% of secondary CTE concentrators pursued postsecondary education shortly after high school.

GRADUATE PROFILE

Critical Thinking
Graduates will be able to read, interpret and integrate information from multiple sources and analyze the information to formulate conjectures, and justify and defend conclusions.
Creativity
Graduates will be able to think creatively and develop solutions in an innovative and efficient manner.
Communication
Graduates will be competent communicators who listen, speak clearly and appropriately, and write clearly and purposefully for a diverse audience.
Collaboration
Graduates will be able to work with others, including those from a diverse group and/or opposing points of view for a common outcome.

PROGRAM COMPONENTS

Viable Curriculum
All programs have a clear, consistent course sequence, cross-curricular activities and incorporate work-based learning opportunities.

Advisory Committees
Each program has an advisory committee comprised of industry/business partners, district and school personnel, parents, and students.

Career Technical Student
Organizations (CTSO)

Each CTE program is associated with a student organization providing leadership opportunities, practicing 'soft skills", and collaborating with other students locally, statewide, and nationally.
