Desert Sands Unified School DistrictDesert Sands Unified School District serves seven cities in the central Coachella Valley of California: Bermuda Dunes, Coachella, Indian Wells, Indio, La Quinta, Palm Desert, and Rancho Mirage. Close to 28,000 students attend 35 schools in the district. Eleven DSUSD preschools also serve the community.

Students are provided with challenging educational choices. Desert Sands Unified School District offers the highest level of opportunity for excellence in the preparation for entry to college as well as a number of career technical education programs (CTE). Academically rigorous programs such as AP (advanced placement), IB (International Baccalaureate Program), and AVID (advancement via individual determination) are offered in both secondary and elementary grades. Career pathways and academies focused on specific student interest include: animal science, automotive, aviation, bio-tech, business/insurance, clean energy, culinary arts, education, engineering, environmental sciences, health, information technology, landscape management, nutrition, and public health.

The district covers 750 square miles and operates on an annual budget of $250,000,000. Over 7,000 students are English Language Learners (ELL) with Spanish as their home language. Statistics for the district indicate that approximately 66% of the students are on free and reduced lunch programs. Over 1,350 teachers are employed by the district along with 1,000 support and management staff members. Counselors, psychologists, and para-educators work with over 2,500 special needs students. Desert Sands Unified School District is proud to provide students with a high level of technology-interface and there are currently 21,500 Chromebooks in the hands of students, teachers, and staff.
